Counselling before and after the birth of a child.
Welcoming a baby can be the most heart opening life changing experience. However, the first two years can also be one of the most stressful times for a couple and their relationship. The Relationship Research Institute says that within the first three years of the birth of a child, approximately two-thirds of couples find that the quality of their relationship declines and within five years of the birth of a first child, 13 % of marriages end in divorce.
Couples Counselling is not only for when the crisis hits. In fact working with a couples counsellor before any major life transition can be extremely beneficial. As pre-marital counselling becomes more common, perhaps pre-baby counselling may also. Nothing like the arrival of a baby to bring up unconscious relationship bias, expectations and patterning. Working with a counsellor to help reconnect and understand these pitfalls can be the difference between relationship renewal or falling apart.
Individual and/or couples counselling can be helpful when:
- Deciding whether to have a child or not to.
- Fertility and infertility issues
- Pregnancy loss and Stillbirth
- Pre birth couples counselling
- Birth debriefing
- Adjusting to this life transition
